About Helen

Yoga has been a major part of my life for over 30 years. Our eldest son was less than 6 months old when I did my first class with two friends. One fell asleep instantly during the relaxation, the other found it mind-numbingly boring and mentally composed her shopping list, while I felt that I had come home to myself. I had found something that suited me completely.

It has been a great joy over the last 25 years of teaching to see others experiencing this sense of belonging, the peace that comes from being in the right place, with like-minded people, the benefits that arise with the discipline of a yoga practice. Teaching and practising yoga has taught me so much about myself. It is a never-ending journey of discovery.

I have always been interested in nutrition but confused by the contradictory messages that appeared in the media. To educate myself I completed a diploma in Nutritional Therapy with the College of Naturopathic Medicine. The three years of study were so interesting and challenging but also just the beginning as the topic is vast and fascinating.

In April 2021 I was diagnosed with osteoporosis (OP). This was a shock. My consultant advised against yoga because many common yoga poses, especially forward bends and deep twists, put too much strain on weak bones. However, giving up yoga would never be an option for me so I set about devising a yoga practice that would not only be safe for me and others with OP, but would actively contribute to building bone health.
